According to the Turkish Family law, parents should register a birth of their child within 30 days from the date of the birth at the local Population Registry Office. If the parents are unable to do this, someone who attended the birth can register.
The documents required for the birth registration:
- application form
- residency or identity documents of both parents
- official birth certificate of the child
- marriage certificate of the parents
- registration fee payment.
The Turkish legislation allows to obtain the Turkish citizenship according to the geographical location or in other words the country of the birth. But if one of the parents is a foreigner, then the child has a right to get a citizenship of the foreign parent's country. It can be done at the relevant embassy or consular office in Turkey.
