Since 2003 – that is, over 20 years - Turkish contractors have carried out $458.4 billion worth of work abroad. Namely, on the territory of 131 countries.
The quality of Turkish construction has become famous all over the world, and the number of orders is increasing. In particular, the total cost of 132 projects implemented in the first six months of 2022 alone amounted to $4.6 billion.
The Ministry of Commerce, summing up the available data, reported that Turkey first started working on contracts abroad 50 years ago. Well, over the past 20 years, the volume of operations has been steadily increasing; in just two decades, 11,273 projects have been implemented.
Even in 2020, despite the political and economic instability, as well as the consequences of the pandemic, not only in Turkey, but also in its partner countries, the construction sector received 354 projects worth $15.9 billion.
In the first half of 2022, we managed to implement132 projects with an average cost of a little more than $35 million.
It should be noted that in terms of the territorial distribution of projects carried out by Turkey abroad, since 1972, the Russian Federation has been in first place with a share of 20.8%: real estate worth $95.4 billion has been built in our country.
In second place is Turkmenistan with a share of 10.9% and almost $50 billion; in third place – Iraq with 6.9% and projects worth $31.7 billion, respectively. Next are Libya, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.
As for the real estate profile, Turkish contractors build the most housing abroad (13.7%, or $63 billion). In second place are tunnels and bridges with a share of 13.3%, worth $60.9 billion; in third place are shopping malls ($33.8 billion), and in fourth place is the construction «contribution» to airports: $30.2 billion.
By the end of 2021, 40 Turkish companies were immediately included in the «List of 250 leading international contractors», despite the fact that in 2003 there were only eight of them in the same list from Turkey.
