The Turkish authorities have decided to create satellite mini-cities in Istanbul". They will appear on both sides of the Istanbul Canal under construction, an "alternative" to the Bosphorus.
Such a "city within a city" format is needed, among other things, for the resettlement of megalopolis residents from emergency and similar buildings recognized as earthquake-prone.
Istanbul is an extremely densely populated metropolis, besides the largest in Turkey: according to official statistics alone, about 16 million people live here. And the population continues to grow. As a result, the new districts-"cities" on both sides near the Istanbul Canal will allow offering people more comfortable living conditions - those who agree with the move and with the urban transformation program implemented by the authorities.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recalled that about 1.5 million housing units are under threat of collapse in the megalopolis in the event of strong aftershocks. At least 20% of them require urgent demolition.
Well, in general, every third building in Istanbul is still not earthquake-resistant, Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu recently clarified.
Nevertheless, new construction is gaining momentum.
