Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum clarified misunderstandings regarding the allegedly suspended work on the Istanbul Canal project.
In particular, recently there were rumors that the megaproject for the construction of an artificial canal, which will become an alternative to the Bosphorus, was stalled without much publicity on July 26, 2022, and the unfinished construction was abandoned, so to speak, to the mercy of fate.
Murat Kurum categorically denied these accusations on his personal Twitter. Stating that the project is in force, zoning work continues, and «step-by-step we are implementing a project that the country will be proud of». However, some changes have been made to the zoning, following the requirements of local residents.
The Istanbul Canal is a powerful infrastructure project that will change the face of the largest Turkish metropolis. Already, the land near this artificial strait has become much more expensive. Very soon, villas will be available for sale in the area. The construction of the Arnavutköy residential complex project with a view of the Istanbul Canal has also been launched.
