According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, a total of 32,715 housing units will be constructed in Hatay. The tenders for these projects have already been completed.
Hatay is one of the provinces that was severely affected by a devastating earthquake, with its epicenter in Kahramanmaras. According to Emlak365, citing a government official, "our duty is to "improve" 11 cities as soon as possible in the event of an earthquake."
In Hatay, there has been a rapid increase in the construction of urban and village houses. The new residences will replace the previous unsafe housing units as soon as the contractors who won the recent tenders begin their work. Additionally, the construction of 30,088 apartments and 48 stores, which had already started earlier, is already in full swing. In rural areas, plans are in place to build 34,129 residences in numerous villages.
Furthermore, there has been an increased focus on strengthening construction risk assessments throughout the country. Although the costs are high, it is considered a worthwhile investment to prevent future disasters rather than dealing with the aftermath. The February earthquake alone has already cost Turkey $105 billion, and this figure is expected to rise further.
