A half million apartment buildings in Turkey urgently reconstructed

How are the Turkish authorities dealing with the earthquakes risks? Turkey is always working on urban transformation - entire city districts have been renovated to make them more earthquake resistent. Instead of old, worn-out facades of houses, ultra-modern reinforced concrete structures are installed. In total, 6.7 million buildings in Turkey are expected to be renovated. By 2023, it is planned to renovate 1.5 million buildings (300,000 buildings - in Istanbul). The Ministry of Environment and Urban Development of Turkey, assessing the potential risks of earthquakes in the country, has intensified the renovation works in 25 cities. Since 2012, when a program to strengthen buildings against earthquakes was launched in Turkey, 20 billion TL (more than 2 billion euros) have been spent on urban transformation.
