The first 30 000 residences for the victims will be erected very soon

Scientific research on the verification of sites and their soil for the construction of new earthquake-resistant houses in Turkey has already begun. This is written by the portal Emlakkulisi.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised that the construction of new permanent residences – in the sense of capital buildings - will be completed within a year; in March 2023, work on the first 30 thousand apartments will begin. Minister of the Environment. For his part, Murat Kurum clarified that construction is planned to begin in all affected provinces at once. Having told that in those locations where the search work and the assessment of the damage have been completed, severely damaged, destroyed or urgently subject to demolition buildings have been preserved; they will be demolished in the very near future.

More than seven thousand people are involved in the damage assessment process. During the first 10 days of work, as Murat Kurum said, 1,856,864 residences in 387,346 buildings were surveyed; it is already clear that 224,923 residences in 50 500 houses need urgent demolition.

The good news is that in almost a hundred thousand buildings in the provinces that were close to the epicenter of the tremors (namely, 99,300 houses), 640,131 residences were slightly damaged; and in 180,355 buildings, 762,627 remained practically intact, that is, they were not affected.

The media reports with reference to the president's words that 98% of the destroyed buildings were built before 1999 and before the memorable earthquake in the Marmara Sea, that is, in non-earthquake-resistant buildings.

Unfortunately, a number of provinces suffered very badly, up to 90%.

There is also an urgent need to upgrade and strengthen the housing stock in a number of districts and cities, primarily in the province of Istanbul, where 230 000 residences in Duzja alone may not withstand the impact of the elements.
