The new housing campaign has already covered 670 000 residences

The number of applications for participation in Yarısı Bizden campaign has exceeded 670 000 units of real estate that will be converted, Emlakkulisi clarifies.

A new campaign was launched by the authorities of "Half of Us" with the aim of transforming risky Istanbul buildings into safer ones as soon as possible. In a nutshell, the general idea is that half of the costs of repairing houses are borne by the state; and it is more convenient and profitable for residents to strengthen the existing structure to which they are accustomed than to move somewhere.

After all, the state does not have time to independently modernize the required number of potentially emergency buildings in the shortest possible time - and the seismic hazard of the metropolis requires this.

As a result, even before the completion of the application process, the demand from the population exceeded expectations by half: in less than a month of receiving applications, which began on April 26, the number of real estate units (residential and workplaces) appearing in applications from the population reached 670,859 in 55,083 buildings.

The Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum has already called this action "the transformation of the century". Specifying that 300 000 residences are subject to transformation at the first stage of the campaign, and in the future 1.5 million office and residential units will be updated: this is an approximate "roadmap" (work plan).

About half a million apartments and detached houses will be repaired, strengthened and put in order at the current base, another million will be replaced by new buildings - in the event that it is not possible to strengthen an emergency building; this will be 500 000 residences on the European and Asian sides of Istanbul.

The authorities expect to complete the mentioned works in about two years, well, "... and in five years there will be no risky houses in Istanbul," the minister said.
