For the Akkuyu NPP, being built near Mersin, a kind of "countdown" has begun: the date of commissioning of the first power unit has been announced.
Akkuyu NPP is of great importance for the region and for the country as a whole: after all, it is the first nuclear power plant in the Republic of Turkey.
It should be recalled that the work at the Akkuyu NPP, the groundbreaking ceremony of which took place 5 years ago, continued without stopping despite all the political and economic difficulties that could not but interfere with the Russian-Turkish project. Well, the intergovernmental agreement between Turkey and Russia was signed even earlier: on May 12, 2010.
The NPP will consist of four units; the launch of the first reactor will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the state - that is, the solemn ceremony of commissioning the unit should take place on October 29, 2023.
It can be assumed that Mersin province will begin to develop even more actively. And to gain investment attractiveness, thanks to the influx of a large number of highly qualified specialists to this region, as well as ordinary workers, many with families. Already, housing prices in Mersin are rapidly approaching the cost of residential real estate in the most popular locations of the Antalya coast. Which is not surprising: a metro is planned here, and a new international airport is being built.
