By 2028, 500 large and small national gardens will be built and opened in Turkey. This was announced by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
The construction of national parks throughout the country is in full swing; 151 national gardens with an area of more than 17 million squares meters have already been commissioned since 2018; and work is currently underway to create another 138 national parks on an area of 27.5 million square meters.
So, the ambitious goal of half a thousand well-equipped leisure and entertainment areas with dense green vegetation is a reality, not a dream. The length of bike paths (already laid) alone exceeds hundreds of kilometers.
Bearing in mind the sad events of February, another function will be "added" to national parks: in cases of natural disasters like strong earthquakes, national parks will be transformed into tent cities. Preparatory work for this is already underway.
One of the largest national parks of the country, on the territory of the former Ataturk airport, will be opened very soon.
Another significant environmental goal in Turkey is "Zero emissions and environmentally friendly development by 2053".
