Fines for noisy neighbors have grown in Turkey

Within recent months and the coronavirus pandemic, noisy neighbors have become a problem for residents of apartment buildings more than ever in Turkey. Very often these are people working from home: tailors and other craftsmen, whose work at home makes a lot of noise. Today, the fine for noise pollution for residential property in Turkey has been increased from 1192 to 1461 lira (about $200). The fine for business property was increased in 2020 from 12025 to 14,740 lira (about $2,150).

What should you do if you bought property in Turkey and now suffer from a noisy neighborhood? The daily newspaper Hurriyet, answering this question, quotes the Law on Condominium, where article 18 obliges all property owners in Turkey to live in such a way as not to disturb neighbors with noise. If your neighbors violate this law, the first step is to contact the manager of the development complex. If this measure does not help, the newspaper recommends contacting the police or the hotline of the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning (Alo 181).
