Turkey's authorities continue the social program, under which farmers can lease state land plots on favorable terms and at half price. From January to July 2020, 200 hectares of fertile land in various provinces of Turkey have already been leased in this way. The provinces of Balikesir, Kutahya and Burdur have become the leaders in the number of leased land.
What are the land plots used for? According to the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning of Turkey, which coordinates the program, the main purpose of the land is the production of medicinal, perfumery and ornamental plants and spices. The land tenants plan to grow 139 types of medicinal and aromatic plants. The main part of the plantations will be used to grow lavender, rose, adacay, thyme and black cumin, which are widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry in Turkey. In total, 262 hectares of land were leased by Turkish farmers for these purposes over the past year and the first seven months of 2020.
