Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, during a meeting at the Adiyaman Coordination Center for Disaster Response, said that work on this profile had begun from the very first day, with the earthquake in Kahramanmarash on February 6. The development of territories for temporary accommodation continues, in particular, the "container city" in Adiyaman, consisting of three thousand sections. On the same day Murat Kurum said that the construction of 21 244 capital residences has already started. All geological, ground and other surveys have been completed for the construction of a total of 319 000 residential lots. The minister called it "the largest mobilization of housing in the history of Turkey".
Contracts for 12 781 residences have already been signed with contractors – construction firms. "We hope that in the next two months we will lay the foundation for 244 000 residences in all 11 affected provinces," Mr. Kurum said. Specifying that the work will be carried out simultaneously in cities and in rural areas, and with an eye to the sociological, demographic structure and cultural component of each locality.
Only within the first stage of reconstruction of 11 provinces affected by the earthquake in Kahramanmarash, about 200 000 residential residences and 73,972 village houses will be built. Moreover, preference is given to the low-rise format.
