The Municipality of Istanbul does not stop large-scale financial injections into the transport structure of the metropolis. In particular, work on laying the long-awaited metro line along the route Mahmutbey-Esenyurt-Bakhcheshehir has finally intensified.
The base for the line was laid in 2021, and the tender for its construction took place in 2017, but the work stalled.
Now, after the Istanbul Municipality has strengthened control over this project, work has resumed in full and is proceeding at an accelerated pace. So, the mentioned route is planned to be put into operation in 2024, if there are no unforeseen problems.
After the launch of the line, it will be possible to get from Kabatash to Bakhchesehir and Esenyurt without a transfer. The «branch» will be a continuation of the route leading to Medjidiekey.
According to the authorities, the 18-kilometer line with 11 stations will be able to serve more than 3.5 million people in the western part of the metropolis. The first stage consisting of four stations (the duration of this section is 7 km) will be launched in 2024.
Not so long ago, the Ministry of Transport claimed that from now on, a new fragment of the metro «web» will be opened in Istanbul every month, covering more and more remote and not only areas of the metropolis.
It also became known that the tram route from Alibeykey to Eminenyu will be commissioned in 2023.
