They promise to open the first metro line in Mersin in 2023. The Pioneer line is 13.4 km long, judging by the project, it will consist of 11 stations. It starts from the municipality of the Mezitli district.
The new metro will be very advanced even by modern standards: it is planned to equip it with smart city technology and a fully automated control system, not to mention the latest equipment - elevators and escalators.
The metro line in Mersin will not be the only one: two more "branches" are planned. When they are put into operation, the total length of the local metro will reach 34.4 km. It is difficult to say exactly when, but the year 2026 is announced beforehand.
Mersin Province has been developing very intensively in recent years thanks to the construction of the Akkuyu NPP - in terms of construction, economy, infrastructure, and roads. So, due to the updated highway, the travel time from Antalya to Mersin will be reduced to five hours, and literally in the coming days.
Well, the launch of the first NPP power unit is scheduled for autumn 2023.
