The media announced the number of hotels in Turkey in this new tourist season. As of the end of January 2024, the number of hotels certified by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the country has exceeded 21,000, and the number of places will soon exceed 1.8 million. This is 1,790,976 residential lots, excluding rooms in guest houses and villas for tourists for daily rent.
For obvious reasons, Istanbul and Antalya, the "resort capital" of the country, are in the lead. The total number of hotels in Istanbul has reached almost 3,000 (2,900), and the total number of beds is over 244,000. There are 2,492 hotels and 615,00 places in Antalya. Mugla is not far behind (the resorts of Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye and smaller ones): according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, there are 2,642 accommodation options for over 217,000 beds. Izmir is expanding its hotel fund as well: there are 1703 hotels and over 81,000 places.
Tourism in Turkey is one of the key income items for the local economy. However, given the negative impact of the pandemic, the income situation is quite uneven. Thus, every three out of five hotels in Turkey are at risk of going under the hammer having failed to pay off their loans. On the other hand, some developers who have implemented residential real estate projects are refocusing on the hotel business, seeing significant prospects in this area. Hotels of huge capacity are underway everywhere.
