There is a shortage of professional builders in Turkey

A personnel crisis is planned in the construction sector of Turkey. There are a lot of employees, but the most experienced masters with good knowledge and an impressive track record are hired one by one in foreign companies. In other words, they run to work abroad in order to receive a salary in foreign currency.

The main reason is that salaries do not «keep up» with inflation. As a result, with a minimum salary of 5,500 Turkish lira (TL) at the moment, it became almost impossible to find a master builder even for a salary three times more - 15,000 TL.

Despite the fact that representatives of the construction sector increased the daily earnings of employees first from 250 TL, then to 300 TL, to 450 TL and even to 500 TL.

But it still can't compare to the $2,500 income that is offered to qualified professionals outside Turkey. Moreover, sometimes transport, accommodation and even meals are compensated by the employer «from above».

That is, experienced specialists «run-away». At the same time, young cadres are in no hurry to replenish the construction industry; as a result, development companies began to suffer noticeably due to the lack of «new blood». The masters at an advanced age, remaining in the country, retire one by one. That is, there is no one to teach and no one.

Mustafa Andych, president of the Association of Industrialists and Construction Contractors (IMSIAD), said: «We have started having difficulties forming teams to work on construction sites. Recently, many specialists have gone abroad and we have sent them there ourselves; now the average age of the masters has exceeded 50 years, and no one is able to take their place». So, the head of IMSIAD clarified, it is necessary to announce a kind of «personnel mobilization» and start hastily training new specialists. To do this, we need to create new specialized institutions (like our vocational schools) and actively attract young people there, who are now not interested in working on construction sites, but massively prefer offices.

It is possible that a new influx of personnel will be able to provide special conditions for obtaining apartments, which are planned, among other things, in the new housing program for low-income citizens.
