A 209.7% growth of property sales was observed in Turkey in June 2020 comparing with the same period in 2019. This June 190,012 properties were sold. Istanbul is the leader of June sales (28,799 units sold or 15.2% of the total number of property transactions). The leader is followed by Ankara (21,915 units sold or 11.5% of total sales). Izmir is the third with 11,690 properties sold or 6.2% of total sales. The least popular cities in June were Ardahan (29 sales), Hakkari (40 sales) and Bayburt (68 properties sold).

HOW MANY PROPERTIES WITH A MORTGAGE WERE SOLD IN JUNE 2020?
Mortgage sales increased in Turkey in June 2020 by 1,286.9% (compared to June 2019) and amounted to 101,504 mortgage properties. The share of mortgage sales amounted to 52.4% of the total sales. Most of the mortgage apartments and houses were sold in Istanbul (14,767 properties or 14.5%). The least number of mortgage transactions in June were observed in the city of Hakkari with only 4 sales.
HOW MANY PROPERTIES WERE SOLD IN TURKEY IN JUNE AS DIRECT TRANSACTIONS (NOT A MORTGAGE)?
All other sales of Turkish housing (not mortgages) increased in June 2020 by 63.8% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 88,508 units. The property sales leader here is also Istanbul with 14,032 units sold or 15.9%. The share of direct property transactions in Istanbul amounted to 48.7%. Ankara is the second with 8,114 properties sold directly without a mortgage, Izmir is the third with 5,004 homes. The least number of sales in June were observed Ardahan (14 units).
HOW MANY NEW HOMES SOLD IN TURKEY IN JUNE 2020?
The number of newly built houses and apartments sales in Turkey increased in June by 152% compared with last year's June figures and amounted to 58,632 units (30.9 percent of the total number of new home sales). The largest number of new apartments were sold in Istanbul (8,253 properties or 14.1 percent), Ankara (5,095 properties) and Izmir (3,530 properties).
HOW MANY EXISTING HOMES SOLD IN TURKEY IN JUNE 2020?
Compared with June 2019, sales of secondary housing in Turkey increased in June this year by 244.9 percent and amounted to 131,380 objects. The largest number of secondary housing sales were observed in Istanbul (20,546 properties or 15.6 percent of secondary housing sales). The share of secondary housing sales was 71.3 percent of the total volume of Istanbul sales in June. Ankara again took the second place (16,819 units), and Izmir (8,160 units) took the third place.
TURKEY’s REAL ESTATE SALES INCREASED BY 23.5 PERCENT FROM JANUARY TO JUNE
From January to June 2020, 624,769 properties were sold in Turkey (23.5 percent more than within the same period last year). While mortgage sales increased by 221.4 percent (266,374 objects were sold), all other sales observed a 15.3% decrease (358,395 objects were sold). The decrease in sales of new housing was 4.1 percent (197,722 units), whereas sales of secondary housing increased by 42.5 percent and amounted to 42,6997 units.
HOW MANY PROPERTIES FOREIGNERS BOUGHT IN JUNE 2020
Foreigners purchased 1,664 homes in Turkey in June. This is 38.1 percent less than last June. Istanbul took the first place (730 objects), Antalya province was the second (277 objects), and Ankara was the third (180 objects). Izmir took the fourth place (65 objects), Mersin closed the top five in June sales of housing to foreigners (57 objects).
From January to June, home sales to foreigners decreased by 28.5 percent (compared to the same period in 2019) and amounted to a total of 14,262 units.
RESIDENTS OF WHICH COUNTRIES BOUGHT REAL ESTATE IN TURKEY IN JUNE
Iranians headed the list of foreigners who bought most properties in Turkey in June (398 properties). They are followed by Iraqis (257 homes), Chinese residents (78 homes), Azerbaijani residents (70 homes) and Russians (63 homes).
