Dangerous housing removed in Antalya and Alayna

More than 10 thousand earthquake hazardous buildings have been found during inspections and demolished in Antalya and Alanya since 2013. Almost 169 million TL (17.6 million euros) was spent on resettlement of residents whose houses were deemed hazardous. Since 2012, an urban transformation program has been operating in Turkey. The goal of the program is to identify seismically hazardous buildings. Some of the buildings are to be protected and some are to be demolished. The Anatolian region is considered seismically safe. However, old and dilapidated houses can be destroyed even by the slightest vibrations of the earth, therefore, they are subject to identification and demolition, experts say.

How to determine how seismically stable an apartment building is? The residents of a building need to contact the municipality. They will send specialists who assess the safety of the building. As part of the urban transformation, earthquake-safe houses are being built in place of demolished buildings. In Antalya, seismically hazardous buildings were found in Kepez, Güneş and Gülveren districts. In Alanya - in the Cumhuriyet quarter. In the Anatolian region (in addition to the capital and Alanya), emergency buildings were also found in Manavgat and Muratpaşa.
