Turkey expects to sign contracts worth $75 billion

President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan has officially announced that the country's goal in the near future is to receive $75 billion in the contracting sector. In the sense of signing projects abroad for this amount, writes Emlakkulisi.

The President announced ambitious plans at the awards ceremony for achievements in the field of international contract services, held recently. Congratulating the award-winning companies and their representatives, the Head of state noted that Turkey occupies an honorable – and significant - share in the list of 250 largest international contractors on the planet: 48 Turkish companies are currently on it at once.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he personally witnessed how these figures increased during his tenure in leadership positions, including the presidency, and stressed that he attentively follows the «growth» and development of local companies developing activities around the world.

«Despite the fact that the construction sector is one of the areas most affected by the global economic crisis, the potential of our companies allows us to count on a much larger share of this large pie, which in total exceeds $420 billion annually», Mr. Erdogan stressed. «We should strive to increase our «slice» to at least 15 percent by 2053».

The President said that he has no doubt about the realism of this goal, given the results already achieved: over the past decades, Turkey has implemented projects worth $460 billion in 131 countries around the world. Moreover, 90% of these projects have occurred in the last 20 years.

The development sector in Turkey is indeed very successful; however, inflation and the rise in price of key building materials, in particular iron, prevent it from developing even faster. Not so long ago, contractors protested against the rise in cement prices.
