Electricity supply to Northern Cyprus is being simplified

The project of "Turkish" electricity for delivery to Northern Cyprus (to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or TRNC) is at the stage of technical readiness, local media write. Let's clarify that we are talking about providing electricity to the island through underwater power supply: laying cables along the ocean floor. Experts explained to Anadolu Ajansi: "Island networks are very sensitive, due to their small scale and isolation; so, they usually need to be connected to mainland networks, which are much larger. Many islands around the world are either connected or about to be connected to larger networks."

The Republic of Turkey together with the TRNC have been working in this direction for a long time; in 2017, a corresponding energy agreement was signed. As a result, the two countries created a Joint Working Group on Energy. Then, for a long time, different scenarios of cable throughput were studied, etc.

Now the work is nearing its final completion. As a result, the TRNC will receive a better electricity network, which will contribute to minimizing current outages and periods of power outages in Northern Cyprus.

Earlier we wrote that a giant project for 8,700 residential residences will appear in the TRNC.
