Almost a third of a million residences will be built in a year

More than 300,000 new residences will be built in the earthquake zone during the year. This was stated by Mehmet Ozhaseki, the new head of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

Work continues to revive the regions affected after the events of February 6. Here is what Mr. Ozhaseki says: "As a ministry, we are continuing urban transformation in Turkey. Currently, about 250,000 houses are under construction. However, it is necessary to increase this number to a much higher one, with the help of social housing projects. We are currently operating on an area of 74 million square meters, but our goal is 100 million square meters".

The minister also clarified that, due to the fact that a number of destroyed buildings were in the fault zone, it is now planned to take into account these mistakes and never allow them again. In particular, do not erect buildings on faults, or over the beds of underground streams.

As for specific figures, 311,000 new residential units will be built and put into operation within a year.

Earlier we reported that more than 0.2 million earthquake-prone buildings were found in Istanbul alone. So, the costs of assessing the risks of the construction of certain buildings are now high, but justified.
