IN BAŞAKŞEHIR, EMERGENCY BUILDING STOCK DECREASED ABOUT FOURFOLD

The Başakşehir Municipality has officially announced that the emergency housing stock in this district of Istanbul, which faces significant infrastructure challenges, has been reduced to 13%.

The mayor, Yasin Kartoğlu, declares that Başakşehir is undergoing a transformation and that citizens who want to build their own homes in the area are receiving full support. Additionally, the municipality has selected contractors to construct modern earthquake-resistant residential buildings as part of the urban renewal project, particularly in the Güvercintepe, Ziya Gökalp, and Şahintepe districts.

It is important to note that in 2009, half of the buildings in the district declared unsafe (50%), so the decrease in non-seismic housing stock to 13%, a nearly fourfold reduction, is a significant achievement. The ultimate goal is to completely eliminate unsafe building stock, which is planned to be accomplished within the next five years.

We would like to remind you that individuals who wish to build their own homes are promised substantial financial support from the government. This initiative is actively encouraged among local residents, especially considering that Istanbul alone has 0.2 earthquake-prone houses.
