Tips if you are going to Turkey

Turkey has become one of the most popular destinations for tourists and expats from all over the world. Every year more than two million tourists from the UK alone visit Turkey. So, let's look what you should know before going to this country.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS IN TURKEY

Citizens of the majority European countries, including the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Poland and Spain, are now allowed to travel as tourists to Turkey without visa for every 90 days within 180-day period.

However, nationals of Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Malta, Norway and Portugal must still apply for an eVisa, which they can do online without going to an embassy.

Citizens of various other countries, like the USA and Australia, can enter Turkey with a Turkish eVisa.

Tourists from a small number of countries, such as Cuba, Palau, and South Sudan, must apply for a traditional consular visa in person at an embassy to visit Turkey.

Before going to Turkey make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date you arrive to Turkey and it should have at least one blank page for the entry and exit stamps.

WARNINGS AND ADVICE FOR VISITING TURKEY

  • if travelling with children under 18, be ready to provide documents proving that you are the legal parent or their guardian.
  • pickpocketing and bag snatching can occur in big cities and popular touristic places. So, pay close attention to your personal security.
  • it is strongly advised to avoid visiting places close to the border of Syria due to the conflicts with this country and a risk of terrorist attacks.
