Earthquake affects the cost of rental apartments in Izmir

In the province of Izmir, apartment rent has risen in price.  Experts of the Turkish real estate market associate this growth with the recent devastating earthquake. Turkish media and social media users are outraged about this: while rescuers are saving people trapped in the destroyed houses in Seferihisar, landlords are raising the rent (by significant percent for this region). So the rent of an apartment in Izmir, which until October 22 was around 2,100 TL, rose to 2,650 TL nine days after the earthquake. The Turks discussing the rise in rental prices after the earthquake are comparing landlords to Istanbul traders who sold drinking water at an exorbitant price to people affected by the earthquake on August 20, 1999.
