Property owners in Turkey have to take written consent of their neighbours if they want to glass balcony

Many property owners in Turkey decide to glass their balconies and terraces. In the coastal regions, where foreigners most often buy housing, a glazed balcony can be used as an additional room in winter and as an open terrace in summer. Can you glaze a balcony in Turkey without notifying the management company and neighbors? The answer is no. According to Takvim Gazetesi, referring to the decision of the Supreme Court of Turkey, before glazing a balcony, you must take a written notarized permission of the nearest neighbors. Doors, windows, balconies and corridors facing the street are considered common, therefore, the consent of four out of five co-owners is required for the renovation of these common areas. Otherwise, neighbors or the management company of the development project may complain that the balcony "contradicts the architectural design" and you will have to dismantle the glazing.
