In Antalya, local residents want to ban the sale of housing to foreigners

A few days ago, both local Antalya media and social networks «blew up» the news that on the portal Change.org A petition has been launched demanding a ban on the sale of housing to citizens of other states on the territory of Antalya province. That is, in such popular resorts as Antalya, Alanya, Side, Belek, Kemer, Manavgat, Kash, Kalkan, etc.

The initiators of the petition explain this by the fact that it was due to a flurry of demand from foreigners that prices skyrocketed.

Especially the rent, which has risen to an average of 13,000 Turkish lira (TL) per unit of real estate, despite the fact that the minimum official salary across the country is only 5,500 TL.

Local residents can no longer afford to rent apartments, which they have been doing for decades; and there is often no question of buying their own.

At the time of publication of the news, the number of signatories of the petition was close to 9,000 out of the required 10,000. Antalya residents are looking forward to the reaction of the authorities.

Nevertheless, those who want to buy a house in this province should not worry that such a ban will really be established: the sale of residential real estate in resort areas is an impressive financial injection into the country's budget. So, the Turkish economy is also «sharpened» for the sale of housing to foreigners, in addition, the authorities keep in mind that in the coming months, due to political circumstances, up to a million Europeans may arrive, who are cheaper to winter in Turkey than at home. So many people were preparing for such a scenario. No one will pull a «piece» out of the mouth of many developers focused on a foreign buyer: after all, construction is one of the locomotives of the country's economy.

Disputes about the rights of citizens of other states have not subsided for many months. Partly because illegal foreign realtors create certain problems for the local residential real estate market.

In the autumn we said that Antalya is really crowded: there are no places left in apartment hotels. Well, in Alanya, they even plan to organize a special department - a special bureau for foreigners.
