Although the number of housing transactions decreased both seasonally and in light of economic conditions in December 2023, sales this winter are lower than last year — 42,338 out of the 138,577 residential real estate units sold in the last month of last year were in the three largest metropolitan areas: Istanbul — 23,714 units, Ankara — 11,458 and Izmir — 7,166.
Moreover, these three cities were in the lead for almost the entire last year. However, the resort capital of Antalya made its way into the top three winners in January: 25,382 out of 80,308 residential units sold were in Istanbul (13,423), Ankara (6,709) and Antalya (5,250).
Although some areas were closed for obtaining a residence permit by TAPU, many foreigners left there, and rental prices in some places dropped by up to 25%, Antalya remains popular.
