A 72-km-deep metro station open in Istanbul, and a 65-km metro line is about to open

The next "long-term construction" in Istanbul is about to be completed: a new 65-kilometre metro line will open in March 2024. It is about the Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe route, which will also include Sultanbeyli.

It is about 90% ready. Trains run automatically on an unfinished route in test drive mode. The first stage of the line will be put into operation in March, and it will become available to passengers a little later. However, residents and visitors of the city are looking forward to the first stage of the new line: thanks to it, it will be possible to get from Çekmeköy to Samandere Merkez in eight minutes.

Another important line of the Istanbul metro was opened on January 22, 2024 — the stage of the Gayrettepe-Kağıthane line, which connect the New Airport with stations next to the Bosphorus Strait (European side).

By the way, the deepest metro station in Turkey is located here — its depth is 72 metres.

The Bakyrköy-Kirazlı line is also expected to open soon — at the end of February.
