Ankara-Izmir high-speed line is half ready

The «web» of high-speed rail routes in Turkey continues to expand rapidly, connecting key cities with each other. There are many routes, in particular, from the capital of the Republic of Ankara. The other day we reported on more than 99% readiness of the infrastructure for the launch of the Ankara-Sivas line, which will reduce the travel time six times - from 12 to 2 hours.

Now a lot of effort has been thrown into the early commissioning of the Ankara-Izmir branch line.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismayiloglu said that over the past 20 years, 346.6 billion Turkish liras (TL) have been invested in railways; work on the development of a network of high-speed trains continues.

About the Ankara-Izmir line: along this route, the so-called «physical progress» has reached 54%. After the launch of this railway line, the travel time between the capital and Izmir will be reduced to 3.5 hours. The Minister also clarified that the plans are to transport about 13.5 million passengers and 90 million tons of cargo per year on this route.

Work is also continuing on the superstructure of the 106-kilometer Bursa-Yenisehir-Osmaneli line; its readiness is already 86%.

The transport infrastructure of Turkey is developing not only in the segment of railways; in particular, new ferry and funicular routes are constantly opening in Istanbul.
