Russians and iranians are buying the most housing in Antalya

Antalya is undoubtedly popular: from 2017 to 2021, it accounted for 20.2% of housing purchase and sale transactions with foreigners out of 206,768 such transactions across Turkey. It is curious, though, to look at nationalities of foreign investors who preferred this region.

Selman Özgün, Chair of the Board at Helmann, noted that over the past 5 years (the same period of 2017 – 2021), 41,715 residential units were sold to foreign nationals in Antalya, and most of them to Russian (7,978 residences) and Iranian (4,396) citizens. Germany was also in the top three with 3,848 purchased homes.

The top 10 included Kazakhstan, Iraq, Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Denmark.

Azerbaijan, Jordan, the Netherlands, the USA, Finland, Belarus, Ireland, Canada, France, Israel, and Austria didn’t make it to the top ten but still scored high.

Antalya, however, is not the only in-demand location. Every fourth residence in Bodrum resort is purchased by foreigners, according to one of the major developers.

It has recently been announced that citizens of other countries who apply for a residence permit, including those who have purchased apartments in Turkey, will need to attend social adaptation courses.
