According to information published by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜIK), from September 2015 to August 2020, almost 155 thousand residential properties were sold to foreigners in Turkey. 39.8 percent of them are apartments in Istanbul (61,734 objects). In the first eight months of 2020 alone, foreigners bought 9,596 residential properties in Istanbul. Over five years, foreigners bought 32,061 apartments in Antalya, 8,904 apartments in Bursa, 6,813 houses and apartments in Yalova, 7,856 apartments in Sakarya.
The largest share of foreign property buyers in Turkey over the past five years have been nationals of Iraq (30,209 objects). The second place was taken by the nationals of Iran (15,083 objects), the third - by the Saudis (13,296 objects), the fourth - by Russians (11,228 objects). The top five also includes nationals of Kuwait with 10,137 objects purchased within five years. In 2020, China entered the top list of foreign buyers of real estate in Turkey (in the eighth place of the TOP!), who bought 575 Turkish houses and apartments from January to August 2020.
