The municipality is free to check all the old buildings of Istanbul

In the context of two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 in Kahramanmarasa at once, and precautions for possible strong tremors in the metropolis of Istanbul in the near future, which seismologists have been warning about for years, have come to the fore again.

So, the Istanbul Municipality (IMM) announced an "urgent step": all buildings "older" than 23 years - that is, built before 2000 - will be checked for earthquake resistance free of charge, with the preparation of a risk report.

The name of the Department of Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement, established in 2006 as part of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and continuing its activities all these years, was changed in 2009 to the Management of the Branch of the Istanbul Urban Council (IŞAT). It was this department that started conducting inspection studies in accordance with the "Earthquake Mobilization Plan", finally formed and publicly announced in 2019.

What is important in this news for residents of the metropolis: an application for a free inspection of a house or apartment in the building in which they live can be submitted on the website http://binatespiti.ibb.istanbul /. The residence will be "detected" in the database by automatic express scanning, and the application will be processed immediately.

Earlier it became known that many Istanbul buildings recognized as emergency will be moved from potentially dangerous areas, relocating residents.

New residential complexes continue to be built in various areas of the metropolis. Just a few days ago, a new project was announced in Ferhatpasa.
