Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismayiloglu has officially announced the date of the long-awaited opening of the Kyakhane metro line-the New Airport.
It was supposed to be completed by the end of 2022. The commissioning of the «branch» was slightly delayed, but not significantly – for three weeks, taking into account its length: as much as 34 kilometers.
On the Besiktas metro line (Gayrettepe)-Kagytkhane-Eyup (Gekturk)-The new airport will have 9 stations; it will be able to serve 800 thousand passengers daily. Due to the Medzhidiekey-Mahmutbey «branch», this airport line is successfully integrated into the entire system of ground and underground railway transport of the metropolis.
Adil Karaismayiloglu clarified that with the opening of the new line, it will be possible to get to Istanbul airport in just 24 minutes from Kyakhane, and in 12 minutes from Göktürk.
By the way, it is on this route that the most high-speed trains will operate: up to 120 km per hour. And Gayrettepe Station – the deepest metro station in the city was also built as part of this project.
The transport department is also very proud of the fact that it has commissioned new trains with the first engine of domestic production for the metro.
Finally, we will clarify that with the future unification of the line with the Zinjirlikuyu and Hadjiosman-Yenikapi metro stations, the total length of the «branch» will increase by another 3.5 km, totaling up to 37.5 kilometers.
