More than a million people changed their place of residence after the February events

After two strong aftershocks in early February, affecting more than a dozen Turkish provinces, many people were forced to change their place of residence - temporarily or permanently. They were placed in hotels, guest houses, temporary buildings, as well as student dormitories specially vacated for this purpose. Here is a list of how many citizens the provinces have accepted, and which ones (as of the end of February 2023):

Istanbul – 3 701 people;

Bursa - 25 000 people;

Kocaeli – 28 036 people;

Konya – 36 736;

Ankara - 205 454;

Samsun – 15 530;

Sivas – 19 855;

Trabzon - 14 000;

Kayseri – 40 442;

Van – 17 400;

Eskisehir – 22 851;

Aydin - 24 242;

Mugla - 40 300;

Mersin – 65 496;

Elazig - 50 000;

Mardin - 27 000;

Antalya – 154 086.

More than 325 000 have moved to other provinces; in total, according to official estimates, there are 1,116,040 forced "refugees from the earthquake," writes TRT Haber.

However, the actual figures may differ: according to unofficial data, more than 200 000 people have moved to Mersin province alone. In various sources, among which there are accounts of local residents in social networks, figures up to 400 thousand are mentioned. More than 150 000 people also came to Antalya province.

Which could not but affect rental rates, as well as the cost of housing for sale: for example, in Adana, where many Turkish citizens who lost their homes temporarily or permanently also moved, apartment prices jumped by 25-50% in a matter of days.

Since it will not be possible to provide permanent housing for all the victims quickly, despite the fact that the authorities took up the restoration of damaged residences almost immediately.
