More than 3 million housing units in the country have gained a «second wind»

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change reported on the successful renovation, strengthening or repair of 3.2 million residences as part of a nationwide urban transformation project.

The head of the department, Minister Murat Kurum recalled that ideally, we would like to achieve an indicator when by 2035 there would not be a single building in Turkey that needs major repairs, strengthening or modernization.

Urban transformation works are continuing in 922 districts of 81 provinces of the country. In total, 6.6 million inspections of residential residences and workplace premises have already been carried out in order to identify those who do not meet the requirements.

As for the largest Turkish metropolis, as well as the settlement, especially prone to earthquakes – Istanbul – 695,000 residential premises in 39 districts have already been repaired here within the framework of the national project, and 93,000 housing units are being transformed. And in the capital of the country, Ankara, the work managed to affect 39,000 residences throughout the city.

Recall that the houses are carefully checked. When an outdated or potentially emergency building cannot be put in order - repaired or strengthened so that it meets modern requirements - then it is demolished and a new one is built.
