Architects speak about how pandemic consequences will affect new real estate projects in Turkey

People's requirements to housing have considerably changed since the pandemic is no longer a bookish medical term but part of our reality. Now, working on new residential real estate projects in Turkey, architects and designers are trying to make housing as functional as possible: taking into account the latest needs and requirements dictated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Sami Savatli, architect, interior designer, artist: “After the pandemic, apartments will have more multifunctional spaces that can be changed in accordance with people's needs. So the same space can be changed and used as an office, living room or dining room - in the near future there will be new solutions for modular apartments and houses. The kitchen has become the centre of the home again, in new real estate projects in Turkey, the kitchen will take up more space, because people now need more space for both cooking and storing food. Designers will more focus on lighting as an option to visually increase the space of the apartment."

Deniz Hasyrci, PhD, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Environmental Design (Izmir): "New housing projects should take into account spaces for disinfecting outerwear, shoes, bags, hats and etc."

Enis Karavil, Interior Designer, Creative Director: “New living and office spaces will now be designed with special soundproofing and privacy requirements in mind. Smart Home systems will be in widespread demand: more powerful and functional solutions from are being developed."

Erdem Akan, design director: “Sensitive lighting, which do not need to be touched to turn the light on or off will become popular. The sensor technology will be used for flushing toilets. Tiles with a special self-cleaning coating will be used to decorate the bathrooms, which will save water, light and detergents. "

Yozlem Er, Doctor of Science, Professor, Head of the Department of Industrial Design: “With the quarantine, our homes have turned into home offices. Now we know that to ensure full-fledged remote work of several family members, homes need a powerful Internet infrastructure. Its development, in turn, will require major repairs and renovation of all tech equipment in the apartment buildings."
