Civil engineers of the resort town of Alanya (Antalya province) presented a plan to strengthen the seismic resistance of buildings in the city.
Despite the fact that Alanya is located in a low zone of seismic activity (due to the fact that the Taurus Mountains are quite "old" and therefore not very mobile), in light of recent events, local authorities are seriously puzzled by the increase in the safety of living in the city.
The plan includes the following steps:
- immediate preparation of the general plan in case of earthquakes, taking into account expert opinions of specialists from professional associations in the field of real estate, specialized departments of universities, as well as other organizations related to this;
- preparation of action plans in case of similar recent natural disasters; but not only in case of an earthquake, but also floods, tsunamis, landslides;
- preparation of public gathering places in emergency situations;
analysis of the effectiveness of buildings and mandatory strengthening or demolition of buildings recognized as potentially emergency in the sense of insufficient seismic stability;
- verification by experienced civil engineers of old buildings for compliance with their design standards: it is necessary to analyze their strength;
- a ban on opening a business in buildings where there are violations or damaged load-bearing structures;
- thorough inspection before commissioning of buildings "intended" for education, healthcare, etc.: that is, social profile. First you need to be 100% sure of their strength and safety;
- and some other steps.
It is also extremely important, the authorities stressed, to intensively inform the population that when buying residential real estate, it is earthquake resistance that should be a rarity characteristic.
Recall that Alanya may soon be allocated to a separate province.
