Antalya Airport received over one thousand aircraft on the first day of holiday

Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, reported that on July 9, 2022 (the first day of the Kurban Bayramı holiday this year), the Antalya Airport set a new record by receiving 1,034 airplanes. The previous historical high was 1,026 airplanes on July 2.

The total passenger traffic on July 9 was 182,150 people, 19,666 of them flying domestic airlines and 163,844, international airlines.

The Minister reminded that the Antalya Airport has long been operating at the limit of its capacity and in 2021, air hub throughput capacity improvement was put out to tender in an attempt to satisfy passengers’ growing demand.

Eventually, the service provider was successfully selected. The Antalya Airport renovation project includes expanding the domestic terminal and building an additional international one. They are also planning to create a VIP terminal, improve the runway’s throughput capacity, and build a new technical facility, a fuel storage facility, and more. This will take about three years, so the work will be completed in 2025.

The contractor that won the bid in spring guaranteed the rent of over EUR 8 billion. The company had already made an advance payment of EUR 2.1 billion.

The Turkish aviation continues to develop. For instance, the Istanbul Airport was recently certified as 5-Star by Skytrax.
